• Virtual Concerts

Posted by Miss Gioia on 4/29/2021 2:00:00 PM

    Good afternoon,

By now you should have received a note about the upcoming Strings virtual concerts given on May 7 (PES) and May 13 (IMS). These concerts are not open to the public; however, they will be recorded and posted on Facebook and sent to parents to view.

Please remember on May 7th that PES students should wear white tops, black bottoms, and black shoes for both boys and girls.

At Inman on May 13th, girls should wear all black, head to toe, while boys should wear white on top, black on the bottom and black shoes.

    Thank you.

    Good morning,

Due to the inclement weather, unfortunately, our Symphony Supply open house has been canceled for Thursday evening, February 11th. Most of you attended last night's which we are grateful for; however, if you have yet to start a rental contract for your child's instrument, we encourage you to contact us at PES so we may know to measure your child at school today. From there, knowing their correct size, you may contact Symphony Supply to begin the rental process over the phone or via email.

Thank you for your patience as we begin Strings this semester.

    Good morning,

This is a reminder that, for beginning Strings families, the Symphony Supply open houses are happening this week in the Paris Elementary cafeteria. This is how you will begin renting an instrument and acquiring the necessary supplies for Strings class. The evenings are Tuesday, February 9th and Thursday, February 11th 5:30 - 7:00 pm. We ask that if your last name begins with the letters A - L that you attend on Tuesday and M - Z on Thursday if at all possible. We will be wearing masks and practicing social distancing to the best of our ability. To expedite your time in the building, you may visit www.symphonysupply.com and click "Rent" to print off forms to have them filled out in advance, but this is not required. You can also review their pricing and policies ahead of time. Lastly, make sure to bring your child with you so that they can be accurately measured for the correct size instrument.

    Thank you!

  • Beginning Strings 2021: How to Join

Posted by Miss Gioia on 1/25/2021 9:15:00 AM

    Good morning,

I am pleased to announce that PSSD has given approval for Strings to be opened up to beginning 3rd, 4th, and 5th graders starting this month.

Please read carefully below to find out all about recruiting and registration.

This week beginning January 25th, I will visit eligible classrooms to give a presentation and provide paperwork for those children interested in joining. There is one caveat though:

DUE TO COVID RESTRICTIONS, WE CANNOT ACCEPT MORE THAN 50 3RD GRADERS AND 50 4TH/5TH GRADERS; FURTHERMORE, WE DO NOT ACCEPT VIRTUAL BEGINNERS. YOU MUST LEARN IN PERSON TO START AN INSTRUMENT. The way we base acceptance is on WHO GETS THEIR PAPERWORK IN FIRST. If your paperwork is turned in past the 50th available slot, you will go on a waitlist in case an opening becomes available within the remainder of the semester. Remember, if you can't get in this year, we should have an opening the following year. Anyone in 4th or 5th grade may also be a beginner; however, we still will not accept beginning 6th graders.

If you get in, your child will receive an acceptance letter next week, and you will be invited to one of two instrument rental open houses on the evenings of February 9th and February 11th. Details will be outlined in your registration forms.

Finally, class attendance will begin Monday, February 15th, in which Strings students will attend during their "special area" time. Skip tickets will not be given to beginners at all this semester in order to make up for lost instruction time. Your child will attend their other specials rotation on Tuesdays and Thursdays. If this is a problem for you, please do not sign up for Strings as there will be a waiting list of people who want to join right away and will not want to wait for your child to decide to drop out halfway through the semester because they miss the frequency of their other specials.

I am very grateful to PSSD for opening up this opportunity to our program once again. Rest assured we only have 12 students in a classroom at a time, sequestered by homeroom, spread out six feet apart, and required to wear masks unless they have a health condition that prevents them from doing so.

         Thank you.

  • Inman NEW Virtual Schedule

Posted by Miss Gioia on 1/6/2021 9:25:00 AM

    Good morning, Inman Strings students,

Please take note that tomorrow, January 7, your Strings virtual schedule will be changing to coordinate with the live, in-person schedule. That is, you will receive an invitation to join our online class via Microsoft Teams during your Special Area music time. Rather than joining Mrs. McLeese's or Mrs. Presson's class, you will join mine. Your attendance is mandatory.

Please be aware that you are actually populated in TWO of my Microsoft Teams cohorts since there are TWO teams per grade. What this means is that every Tuesday and Thursday you will receive TWO invitations to join a Strings class. You are to ONLY JOIN ONE OF THEM. The one that you join is the one that is NOT your STEM/PE classtime.

If this doesn't make sense, then please reach out to me, and I will explain it further.

I look very forward to seeing you in a fashion that allows us to have fifty-five minute classes again!

Remember, always have your instrument ready to use. You will keep yourself on mute unless I ask you to come off mute to answer a question. Furthermore, every class will be recorded and available to watch at a later time in case you are absent. All your music will be available online if you click Files then Class Materials to access it.

    Good afternoon,

6th - 8th graders, please take note that your schedule at Inman is changing next week. For at-home virtual learners, this means your virtual lesson time will occur within the window of 11 am - 12 pm. Remember, all meetings will be offered as a recording via Microsoft Teams if you cannot join live.

    Thank you!

  • Update on virtual learning for Strings

Posted by Miss Gioia on 9/14/2020 9:10:00 AM

    Good morning,

As you know, part of our student population is learning in school, and part is learning at home virtually; therefore, the Strings schedule is now a bit different than it was previously when we were all learning virtually from home.

What this means is the Inman virtual students will be able to join a virtual call live between 12:30 and 1 pm through Teams every Tues/Thurs. This will be much shorter than our previous meetings, but every lesson is recorded and available to view after the fact. The intention is to keep the at home learners in sync with the in-person student body. The reason the lessons are significantly shorter is because I'm teaching 6 in-person orchestras an hour a piece throughout the school day with no break for virtual teaching besides the designated half hour. So, I will be zipping through 6 mini lessons in that time, per grade level and division.

For PES, 4th and 5th graders will still have virtual meetings on M-W-F; however, they are 30 mins earlier than previously. This means 5th graders are at 1 pm, and 4th graders are at 1:30. Again, no meeting is mandatory to attend live; they are all available as a recording to be watched at a later time if necessary.

  • Week of Sept 8

Posted by Miss Gioia on 9/3/2020 1:15:00 PM

    Good afternoon,

As school returns beginning Tuesday, September 8, Strings students who are attending in person should bring their instruments on the appropriate Strings days.

We will be practicing official PSSD social distancing guidelines and related procedures as we deliver instruction.

We look forward to making music together again!
