Art is one of the “Special Area” classes at Paris Elementary School. Students come to Art on their scheduled day of an A, B, C, or D schedule rotation.

Each Art class involves my checking attendance, introducing and teaching the lesson objective, having discussion time, then moving into art production time where students apply what they have learned.  The last few minutes of the class are used for cleaning up, putting materials back in place and leaving the room ready for the next group of students.

Art lessons cover a variety of topics, concepts, and skills.  Lessons will involve using the Elements and Principles of Design, studying artists and styles, learning art vocabulary and working with different art media and tools.  In Art, students practice problem solving and critical thinking.  They learn about history and different cultures.  They learn to use their senses to better explore our beautiful world.

There will be an Art Show in the spring where students select their favorite piece of art for display.

Students receive two grades for ART.  There will be an Art grade which is based on the students’ participation in discussions, on demonstrating the knowledge and skills learned in the lesson, and on their overall effort in class.  The ART CONDUCT grade is based on the following ART CLASS RULES:

1.   Enter quietly and be seated.

2.   Leave materials alone until directions are given.

3.   Listen closely and follow directions.

4.   Soft conversation only during art production time.

5.   Use materials safely and properly.

6.   Leave area clean with materials in correct place.

7.   Respect your classmates and their works of art.

These rules are posted in the ART room and have been explained to students. Each infraction will result in an art “ticket” or check. Students with two checks will receive an “N” (needs improvement) on their report card and those with three checks will receive a “U” for unsatisfactory. Please discuss this with your child.
