Welcome

Paris Elementary School Orchestras

Dear Parents:

The Paris Special School District is pleased to offer your child the opportunity to learn to play a string instrument free of charge through our string program.  Classes will meet during the school day on Monday, Wednesday and Friday.  Students will come to string class during “special area class” time and will not miss any academic class time to participate in strings.  Instruction will be offered on violin, viola, cello and string bass.  In order for your child to participate in these classes, you will need to rent or purchase an instrument from a music store, or other source, such as a friend or family member.

String instrument instruction will continue to be available to your child through the 8th grade in the Paris Special Schools and continue through high school.  We will take several field trips throughout the school year to hear concerts performed and participate in performances ourselves.  Learning to play an instrument and belonging to the school orchestra opens a whole new world of friendship and fun.  The opportunities for playing a string instrument after high school are abundant, with many colleges and universities offering scholarships for orchestra participation.  Orchestra provides a great foundation for your child in all aspects of life.  In addition to music, students learn self-discipline, group cooperation, problem-solving, goal-setting, self-expression, memory skills, concentration, poise, enhanced physical coordination, high self-esteem and the important of teamwork.  These skills are in great demand in almost every aspect of life.  Like all the arts, music has a profoundly positive effect on the academic success of students as well.

Sincerely,
