The Four-Blocks Literacy Model

The Four-Blocks Literacy Model is a multi-method, multi-leveled framework for teaching language arts in grades one through three. A similar model called Building Blocks helps kindergarten students prepare for first grade. Modifications included in Big Blocks are appropriate for grades above third grade. Based on the premise that all children do not learn in the same way, the Four Blocks Model incorporates four different reading areas daily which include: Guided Reading, Self-selected Reading, Writing, and Working with Words.
