Ms. Lorri’s First Grade Homework Shuttle

February 6-10

·         READING: In reading this week, we will be focusing on beginning sounds:  /wh/, /qu/, /tw/, and ending sound /ck/.

·         Spelling/Writing Homework:  I am making a little change in homework.  The children will have spelling/ writing homework on Thursday night instead of Wednesday night in our weekly homework schedule.

·         PARENT NOTE: Mr. Owens would like the children to bring home a book every night for homework. I may send home the same book twice in a week, or may send home a book that your child read at home previously. If so, please encourage your child to work on reading fluently – reading words correctly, with expression in their voices, and phrasing correctly.  They should pause for commas and periods.  Sometimes they have a tendency to “run through them”.  Please remember to ask your child questions about the story to check their comprehension.

·         MATH: We will continue adding and subtracting!  Please practice addition and subtraction flashcards for 5 to 10 minutes daily. Students need to know these facts immediately!

·         SPELLING WORDS:  when, quit, twig, twin, whip, quack, what, kit, kick

·         WORD WALL SIGHT WORDS:  been, may, stop, off, never, seven, eight
