What is Accelerated Reader?

Paris Elementary School

Accelerated Reader Information/ Guidelines 2010-2011

The goal of the AR program is to encourage student reading level while instilling a love of reading into every child.

·         AR will be used by every classroom teacher at Paris Elementary School.

·         AR will be part of the daily schedule in each homeroom class (20 minute minimum).

·         All goals will be established according to the chart provided by Renaissance Learning.

·         Students will be expected to reach their AR goal each six weeks.

·         Teachers will update Renaissance Place with student goals within the first week of each six week grading period.

·         Students will strive for 80%-100% accuracy on all tests.

·         Tests may be deleted one time to encourage student comprehension and retention.

·         Students will read within their ZPD until their AR goal is achieved. To encourage student choice when reading, each child will be provided a book pass to allow “off-level” reading. This pass may be used at anytime during the six weeks period. Students may also read out of their ZPD when they have attained their goal.

·         Students who attain their goal within a six week period will receive a prize for the their efforts

·         An additional reward will be earned by students for attaining their goals for the 1st through 5th grading period.

·         Parents will be able to view their child’s AR report via Internet access through the PSSD website.
