Dear Parents,

Your child will be participating in a Physical Education class at Paris Elementary.  I would like to give you some idea of what your child will be learning this year.  Many people view Physical Education class as an extra recess where the children can go play.  Please understand this is NOT what I am here for.  First of all, I want you to understand that physical education and physical fitness are extremely important for you child now and as he or she grows to be an adult.  My basic goal will be to help your child achieve his or her maximum fitness level, have fun moving, develop the necessary skills for lifetime sports, and acquire a desire to participate in the school's programs and extracurricular physical activities.

            I have a few requirements for you to help ensure your child's comfort and safety.  Many of the activities are vigorous, so it is important that your child dress appropriately.   Tennis shoes are REQUIRED to reduce the risk of injuries.  The clothing worn should be appropriate for play and girls wearing dresses are REQUIRED to bring a pair of shorts to wear underneath.

            For you child to gain his or her maximum benefits from physical education class, 100 percent participation is required.  IF A CHILD HAS ANY PHYSICAL LIMITATIONS (asthma, etc.)  THAT WOULD LIMIT ACTIVITY IN THE CLASS, PLEASE LET ME KNOW BY WRITING A NOTE DESCRIBING THE LIMITATION.  If your child cannot participate because of illness, a written note is required.  If a serious illness continues a doctor’s excuse is required. 

            Every child gains maximum benefits from his or her Physical Education class through participation and conduct.  On the first day of class each student has an "A" in our class.  Points will be lost if a student is not properly dressed for P.E. class.
