Reading:

In reading this week we will be focusing on the diagraphs /tr/, /dr/, and /pr/.   We will continue working on silent /e/ words.

 

  • Spelling Words this week: trip, trot, trap, drag, drop, drill, drip, drug, prop 

 

  • Focus Words of the Week: two, or, before, eat, again, play, who

 

 

Math:

In math we will be focusing on fact families.  We will be continue to  understand addition and subtraction strategies, as well as the relationship between addition and subtraction. 

 

 

Parents, please continue to help your child practice their addition and subtraction flashcards to master their facts.

Parent Notes and Reminders:

                This half of the school year I will begin sending home books from school on a daily basis.  I am hoping that sending home more specific books will enhance your child’s ability to use reading strategies they are being taught.  It is very difficult to keep track of this many books going and coming each day per child so I am asking for your help.  Books should come to and from school DAILY in their labeled book bags.  I know books get left at home from time to time, but I am asking that the books be put back in the bags and into your child’s backpack as soon as they are finished reading.  I have worked hard to build up my own classroom library and would hate to lose any books, and the leveled reading books belong to the school.  Any lost books will have to be paid for.

                I administered the DRA reading assessment to your child last week, and I’m pleased with the reading progress being made.  The D.R.A. results are attached to this note.  I feel that having more access to school books at home will help that progress continue.  Thank you for your support as your child learns to be the best reader possible.
