January 17-27

Word Wall Words

Students should be able to read these words on sight.

Going, sleep, brown, yellow, five, six, walk.

Spelling Words

*This week we will study ccvc and ccvcc words. The vowel is short.

Brag, brad, grip, grill, grin, glad, glum, blot, blab.

Short vowel rule- When there is one vowel in a word and it comes at the beginning or in the middle of the word, it is short.

At this point in the year students should be able to spell the words by listening to the sounds, not memorizing the words.

Notes:-

*Please sign the planner each night to show your child has completed the homework.  Please make sure all books are returned.

Ask your child questions about the book they read.  Who? Where? What? Why? How?

*We will review symmetry.

*We will learn about odd and even numbers

*We will practice addition and subtraction.

*We will practice short vowel rules and focus on reading comprehension.

*We will practice long vowel rules.

*We will learn to use commas in dates, and words in a series.
