GETTING STARTED
Tennessee's Next Generation Tools CD is self-executing. Simply insert
the CD into a CD-ROM drive operating from a Windows or Mac operating system
and the opening page should appear within your default web browser. If your
operating system is not set up to open files automatically from your CD-ROM
drive:
1. Open Windows Explorer or Mac Finder, or Linux mounted CD drive to browse
the contents of your CD-ROM drive;
2. Open index.html. The introductory page should start automatically
using your computer's default web browser.
Note that this CD has been tested and found to function correctly on the following
web browsers, running on Windows, Mac and Linux operating systems:
► Netscape™ Navigator 4.78 and
higher
► Microsoft™ Internet Explorer
5.5 and higher (for IE on Mac computers, be sure your browser's options are
set to output pages using the "iso-8859-1" character set.)
► Apple™ Safari 2.0
► Mozilla Firefox 1.0 and above for
Windows, Mac OS and Linux distributions.
For any of these web browsers, ensure that Javascript, which
controls the navigational menus within this CD, is enabled.
USING MICROSOFT™ WORD DOCUMENTS
The Interactive Unit Builder, its components, and other documents in the Tennessee's
Next Generation Tools CD are templates developed in Microsoft™
Word and PowerPoint. Microsoft™ Word 2000--or a similar word
processing program with the ability to open Microsoft™ Word 2000 documents
or higher (.doc format)--is required to utilize these templates.
For those without a copy of Microsoft™ Word or Microsoft™
PowerPoint, visit www.openoffice.org,
where you can download a free, open-source suite of programs that can read,
edit, and save the documents within this CD with some minor formatting variations.
Openoffice.org is released under the GNU Lesser General Public
License.
USING ADOBE ACROBAT™ DOCUMENTS
Many of the documents, document templates and resources provided on the Tennessee's
Next Generation Tools CD require Adobe™ Acrobat Reader
7.0, which allows you to open and print Acrobat .pdf documents. Updates
of this free software are available at the Adobe website: www.adobe.com/acrobat. If
you are currently using an earlier version on Adobe Acrobat Reader, please
install version 7.0 to ensure the full functionality of the .pdf documents
within.
Acrobat .pdf, or Portable Document Format, is a feature-rich file type that
works in most operating systems, prints exactly as it appears on your computer
screen, and interacts with the user through form fields and prompts that are
modeled on web pages.
It is important that these programs are installed before accessing the resources
on this CD. On the introductory page, click on Install Adobe™ Reader,
and follow that application's installation directions.
While Adobe™ Acrobat Reader does allow for full interactivity and functionality
of Tennessee's Next Generation Tools CD, we highly recommend procuring
a copy of Adobe™ Acrobat Standard 7.0, which better
integrates reading, saving, and editing its documents.
